I am now eight weeks out from surgery. Today I began actual physical therapy in addition to my one to two hour of walking each day.
Again, I am quite fortunate in that the physical therapist I am seeing had the same surgery a year and a half ago. He was able to answer all the questions I had in regard to his recovery and how active he is now even playing hockey again. I have hope!
During the months prior to my surgery I had not been able to do the amount of work I was accustomed to doing. Add to that these past 8 weeks of only walking and still having the lifting restriction of no more than 10 pounds. I feel like I have lost all upper body strength.
We worked on stretching the hip flexors today. My muscles and ligaments are very tight. The light and limited amount of work we did today showed me how much work I need to do, but it felt wonderful to be able to begin stretching.
I will be doing physical therapy twice a week for the month of December and will be ready to begin work again on a limited schedule in January.
I am looking forward to a pain free and physically active 2015. I hope you will have a healthy 2015 and will include massage and craniosacral therapy in your health practices. I am looking forward to seeing you in the new year.
