one of life’s curve balls

one of life’s curve balls

Upon careful recollection I have probably been dealing with low back pain for over 20 years.  I was able to control the symptoms with ice, massage, stretching, chiropractic, acupuncture, Reiki, craniosacral, integrative  structure, restorative pilates and meditation.

Healing was a huge part of my decision to move back to Wyoming.  I knew it would entail healing spiritually, mentally and emotionally.  The emotionally segment is still underway.  It then became apparent the God had determined that the healing cycle was to include physical.  I do find some humor in the fact that my first back injury was here in Wyoming in high school when I was thrown from a horse.  The circle is now complete.

All of my attempts to manage the symptoms as I had done for 20 years was no longer working.  The past nine months have been a lesson in how to handle increased, intense and longer durations of debilitating physical pain in the low back, hips and legs down to the ankles.  I have now added many x-rays, MRI’s and CT scans with a fantastic orthopedic surgeon.  All of that revealed advanced osteoporosis that will be treated for 6 weeks prior to surgery.  The surgery will be a laminectomy at L5 and a fusion of L4 L5.  I will have titanium screws and bone grafts.  The difficult part for me will be that I will not be able to resume work for 12 (twelve) weeks.   God does have a way of slowing me down.  I will continue to post blogs on the healing process after the surgery.
